The government constituted a COVID-19 task force headed by the Union finance minister to handle the economic challenges arising from the spread of the virus and the resultant impact on various sectors of the economy.

➤ Janta Curfew announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 22nd March, Sunday 7:00 a.m to 9:00 p.m.

➤Centre-state interaction at the top level comes a week after WHO (World Health Organisation) declared the disease a pandemic.

➤ 22nd March officially announced a coordinated approach by all states as per the protocol set out by the union ministry of health.

➤ Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a video conference with heads of Saarc leaders and hed deputed Principal Secretary PK Mishra to coordinate with state.

➤ The central government has decided to make half its 30 lakh junior employees immediately work from home till 4th April.

➤ No passenger train will originated from any railway station in the country from midnight to 10 p.m on Sunday.

➤ Indian Railways has cancelled 245 trains in order to restrict unnecessary travel due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Antarctica experiences first known heat wave

Researchers from the Australian Antarctic Program revealed that they had recorded temperatures as high as 9.2 degrees Celsius at Casey station in the continent east earlier this year, indicating a heatwave event. Background Heat waves are classified as three consecutive days with both extreme maximum and minimum temperatures.
